He has had recent health concerns which brought his price down. Makes one wonder how he would cope with an O's physical.

Until this post I new nothing of this player, which is not unusual for me. I didn't know anything about the two Latin players we signed the other day. However, from just watching the video, it appears as though many of his pitches are up in the strike zone and hittable. Is it my misperception or is his delivery just that deceptive?

He along with Ryu were a big part of the Korean National Team doing well in the WBC and other international competition. He has had health issues and evidently is a Boras client. I just asked Dan if he might be willing to establish himself with a one year deal.

Well, apparently he has had success against quality competition. Not optimistic with boras as his representative.

His biggest problem is his name. There's just too much you can do with that.

His slider looks good but that might be from all the swings and misses he's getting. I'm not so sure major league hitters would swing at it as much. Either way, he has starter and closing experience and he should not cost a lot. Considering the general affordability of Chens contract and Chens numbers are better I think something like 2/8 could make it happen.

Like I said the only way he could happen with the O's is a deal where he signs a one year deal in exchange for free agency after the one season.
Why would PA even agree to a one year deal if he has health issues? Wada to close in his memory, IMO. And Boras isn't selling him cheap.

Because a one year deal is less risky then a multi-year deal.

I am certainly not saying that there is a likelihood of anything happening between the two parties.

    • Kimbrel’s getting a lot of save chances.   In addition to his 12 saves and 3 blown saves, there were two other games where he was brought in for the save but Hyde had to pull the plug on him.  In one, Cano bailed him out and got the save.   In the other, Akin allowed the tying run that Kimbrel had put on base to score, so Akin rather than Kimbrel got the blown save even though Kimbrel was really the one who created the situation.  The O’s won that game anyway but it took three extra innings and a lot of drama.   So really, Kimbrel’s had 17 chances to earn a save, and converted 12.   Not very good, but he seems to have emerged from his rough patch and hopefully will be effective for a while.
    • They know that if they start doing that he'll start swinging at more of them, and when he's put the first pitch in play over his career he's batting .314 with an .895 OPS. Although that's actually just seven points of OPS higher than the MLB average.
    • Does the “27th man” demotion count as an option?
    • With two strikes the league OPSes hits .168/.246/.258 with a .504 OPS. So either .654 or .547 he's doing better in those situations than most batters. Since the start of 2023 he's 34th in MLB in two-strike OPS out of 300 batters with 100+ PAs in those situations. Our old friend DJ Stewart is 17-for-126 with 78 Ks and a .465 OPS when batting with two strikes. Elly De La Cruz is OPSing .471 with two strikes, with 215 strikeouts in 373 PAs.
    • I’m a proud Orioles fan and a proud ketchup-on-hot-dog guy!  😂
    • Who goes for the new guy today?  Gotta be one of Vespi, Akin, or Tate?  I’m guessing Vespi. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if we did a load management move with Akin. He’s pitched a lot so far. On pace for like 90 IP.  Also, keep in mind that this would be Vespi’s fourth time being optioned this year, and I think a player can only be optioned five times. After 5 times in one season they have to be DFA’d to be assigned to the minors.
